Recognizing Claire Horn: A Dedicated Leader in RCE Greater Atlanta

After years of dedicated service to RCE Greater Atlanta, Marketing and Communications Coordinator Claire Horn stepped down from her position at the end of January 2025. RCE Greater Atlanta would like to recognize her outstanding contributions to the organization, her commitment to sustainability education, and her leadership in strengthening the network’s communications efforts.

Claire first became involved with RCE Greater Atlanta in its early stages after hearing about the Sustainable Development Goals while working in communications at an independent K-12 school and teaching about the Sustainable Development Goals. She reached out to learn more about the initiative and quickly became a key player in shaping its marketing and communications strategy. As one of the organization’s longest-standing volunteers, she played a crucial role in the development of the RCE’s website, branding, and social media presence. Claire worked closely with the 48in48 nonprofit group to launch the first website and collaborated with graphic designers to establish the initial branding and logo for RCE Greater Atlanta.

Over the years, Claire ensured that RCE Greater Atlanta’s newsletters, website, and social media remained dynamic and informative, helping to share important updates with members and promote the network’s events and programs. She also served as a mentor to a rotating team of student volunteers and interns, guiding them in effectively managing communications efforts.

Longtime colleague Kris Chatfield reflected on Claire’s impact, saying, “Claire has been part of our coordination team since the beginning of the RCE, volunteering countless hours to develop and maintain a vibrant website and marketing strategy for the network. She has provided years of MarComm continuity as our student team has changed and grown and has been an invaluable resource. We will miss her as part of our staff team, but we know she will continue to be a valuable member of our network community.”

Perrin Brady also spoke about Claire’s role, stating, “While I've been with the RCE, Claire's been a vital piece of our coordination, making sure social media efforts are organized, exploring new avenues, and giving our website and newsletter a professional touch. Marketing and communications are so important to a network like this, so we've been lucky to have Claire assisting each of our MarComm students every year. The coordination efforts behind all this might be unseen by most members, so I think it's great to be able to highlight how much work goes into keeping RCE Greater Atlanta connected!”

Beyond her communications work, Claire played a key role in the organization’s leadership, particularly during the pandemic when she stepped in to help coordinate efforts and support the evolving structure of RCE Greater Atlanta. Her contributions helped shape the network’s programs, including the transition from ad hoc action groups to more structured programmatic efforts.

Claire shared her thoughts on her time with RCE Greater Atlanta: “The many students, coordinators, and community members I worked with during my time communicating the RCE's message were an inspiration. Despite coming from so many different sectors, disciplines, and places, their shared dedication to the goal of building a more equitable and resilient region gives me hope. I'm grateful to everyone I met, from the artists to the engineers, students to elders, who all exemplify thoughtful dedication to making our region better. It was a pleasure to work alongside you, and I look forward to remaining connected as a member.”

One of Claire’s favorite memories with RCE Greater Atlanta was visiting the Sweet Auburn Avenue Water Tower, where she and other members took turns singing inside the unique, mural-covered space. As someone with an artistic background, she found the experience especially meaningful and representative of the diverse, interdisciplinary community that RCE Greater Atlanta fosters.

As Claire transitions out of her formal role, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of commitment, innovation, and collaboration. While she will no longer be managing the organization’s communications, her influence will continue to shape RCE Greater Atlanta for years to come. The network is deeply grateful for her contributions and looks forward to staying connected as she embarks on her next chapter.
