STUDENT COORDINATION TEAM

The Student Coordination Team is the backbone of RCE Greater Atlanta, carrying out a set of defined core functions for the network as well as student engagement at their respective institutions. Our goal is to create a network of students, student organizations, and campus departments striving towards the same goals of advancing the UN SDGs at institutions across the Greater Atlanta area.

See our current team members here.

Framework

The Student Coordination team is based on a cross-institutional model, fostering collaboration among the network’s higher education members. The core team currently spans eight institutions. Student Coordinators at each institution are supervised by a Staff Coordinator at that institution. They also work as part of the full Student Coordination Team, under the supervision of a Student Engagement Manager who works out of Georgia Tech. Student Coordinators meet weekly to coordinate efforts, and the Student and Staff Coordinators meet all together a few times each semester to align the broader group on goals and progress. The team aims to make RCE Greater Atlanta a fulfilling experience for all members.

Participating institutions include:

  • Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC)
  • Georgia Institute of Technology (GT)
  • Georgia State University (GSU)
  • Kennesaw State University (KSU)
  • Morehouse College
  • Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM)

    Student Coordinator Responsibilities

    1. Co-manage or assist Core Network Function
    2. Be an active member of the RCE
    3. Plan and carry out campus engagement
    4. Produce content to promote the RCE
    5. Find opportunities for and execute inter-institutional collaboration

    Structure and Benefits

RCE Greater Atlanta typically has at least one staff and one student coordinator at each participating institution. Some Student Coordinators are paid as student assistants, while some work as volunteers, depending on the institution. Paid positions are funded by the individual institutions, since the network itself does not have its own budget. Student coordinators carry out core functions and individual campus outreach, while staff ensure the longevity of the university partnership. Core network functions include: Membership; Global RCE Network Liaison & Reporting; Marketing & Communications; Student Engagement Programs; and Data Collection & Analysis. Staff Coordinators set work responsibilities for students, identify institutional resources, and help connect students to university departments and community organizations. Staff Coordinators also advance education for sustainable development (ESD) at the institution.

There are many ways Student Coordinators benefit from their roles at RCE. They gain work experience, learn about the UN SDGs through practice and experience, and have the opportunity to make connections in and outside of their universities. Student coordinators carry out vital work for the RCE while gaining valuable professional and social experiences.
