SDG Futures Fellows complete yearlong projects helping community partners

SDG Futures Fellows standing together at final day of fellowship

Saturday, April 20th was the final day for our second cohort of SDG Futures Fellows. We congratulate our RCE network for another successful year of the program! At the Kendeda Building on Georgia Tech’s campus, the fellows, their teams, community partners, and RCE members gathered to wrap up the program.

During the final event, students gave presentations to showcase the work they’ve been doing with RCE community partners, completing projects such as planting a food forest, identifying socially conscious businesses, or creating educational content on sustainable food sources made from bugs. With a wide array of partners and projects, the SDG Futures Fellows covered more than half of the Sustainable Development Goals, showing diverse and varied sustainable solutions that make a difference right here in Greater Atlanta. See below for the full list of partners and to learn more about their work in the community:

Fellow Lily Olander, Agnes Scott student who worked on the team with re:loom said, "Working with re:loom has been a highlight of my semester, and I’m pleased to update that the Craft Sale we held on March 23rd was a success! We were able to sustainably re-home over 248 pounds of craft supplies. The generosity of the community who came out showed in over $1,500 of donations to support re:loom’s parent organization, the Initiative for Affordable Housing!"

Maria del Mar Ceballos, program leader from Kennesaw State University, said, "This cohort has never ceased to exceed expectations, and we are humbled and inspired by their commitment and passion."

Stay tuned for the opening of next year’s fellowship application, and be sure to pass along this opportunity to students or partners that could benefit from this program! The SDG Futures Fellowship will be back in the fall, and we can’t wait for another great year.

Many thanks to the Atlanta Global Research and Education Collaborative (AGREC) for funding this fellowship. Thanks as well to Kris Chatfield from Georgia Tech and Maria del Mar Ceballos and Shae Smith from KSU for their leadership of this program, along with mentoring support from Par Sadeghinia from KSU.
