Summer membership meeting focuses on local activism through art

breakout group

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Summer 2023 Quarterly Meeting! Whether you were a long-time member of the network, or someone entirely new, all of the energy you brought to the event made it a success, and we hope you had a wonderful time. We heard amazing presentations from the Praise House Project, giving important space for the arts and humanities in sustainability here in Greater Atlanta. We got everyone moving around, connecting with each other through a networking activity, and hearing about RCE Greater Atlanta programs in small groups. Plus, so many of our members shared their cooking talents, generously bringing food for the potluck.

You can still join to help with any of the RCE's projects that include:

  • hosting the RCE Americas Meeting in late September (contact Kris Chatfield),
  • continuing the sustainable profession mentorship program (contact Mark Lannaman),
  • building the student ambassador program across all local colleges and universities (contact Perrin Brady or Amani Allen-Beale),
  • and initiating additional community partnerships like the one with the Praise House Project (contact Jenny Hirsch).
interns lead the meeting

Also, a big shout out to our interns who led the show at the meeting that they had invested so much time organizing!

Charmaine in water tower

We hope you were also able to see the Sweet Auburn Avenue Water Tower after the meeting. Artist-activist Charmaine Minniefield led an inspiring visit to her beautiful mural inside the tower, where the acoustics were incredible!

Important information and links from the meeting, like the agenda, contact information for presenters, or the Partnership Overview document, can be found here. Be on the look out for further communications following up about events and opportunities mentioned at the meeting. If you still want to find the best way you can contribute to our all-volunteer network, please be sure you've joined and are receiving our communications, or reach out to rcegreateratlanta@gmail.com so we can help you find the best connection for you to get involved!

Several people mentioned job openings and professional opportunities during our closing announcements, so look for those coming into the newsletter and Google Group, and please continue to share them!

small group meeting

Our wonderful hosts for this meeting, the Praise House Project, have lots of exciting activist art on the horizon across multiple sites in Greater Atlanta. You can experience a Praise House by visiting the installation at Emory’s campus this fall here. If you have a venue and are interested in being our next host for the next RCE Quarterly Meeting, please contact Jenny Hirsch!
